ReSound Enlists Help of World Champion Kayaker Eric Jackson to Promote Treatment of Hearing Loss

Bloomington, Minn. – Oct. 7 , 2020 – ReSound, the global leader in hearing aid innovation, announced today a collaboration with Eric Jackson, a world champion athlete and entrepreneur, to promote the treatment of hearing loss.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 37.5 million U.S. adults report some trouble hearing. But it is an undertreated condition. Nearly 30 million Americans with mild to severe hearing loss could benefit from hearing aids, according to NIH. Eric manages degenerative hearing loss stemming from complications of scarlet fever as a child. He has worn hearing aids most of his life.

Hearing loss has not slowed him down. He holds the title of the most successful freestyle kayaker in the history of the sport. For the past 15 years, he has coached almost every gold medal winner in freestyle kayaking, including his son Dane, a world champion who also lives with hearing loss. Eric is also an entrepreneur and founder of both the best-selling brand Jackson Kayak and recently launched Apex Watercraft. Eric is also a competitive fisherman fishing the FLW Bass Tour and kayak fishing tournaments.

“Working with Eric, we hope to bring broader awareness to the needs of millions of people who live with hearing loss,” said Tom Woods, President of ReSound U.S. “He represents a strong advocate within the hearing loss community who lives the ‘hear more, do more, be more’ spirit we so strongly believe in. We look forward to working together towards our shared goals over the coming months.”

“I am excited to join the ReSound family because they have a long history of helping others through innovation,” said Jackson. “Together we will aim to reach those impacted by hearing loss to help them find the resources and support they need.”

The initiative coincides with the launch of ReSound ONE™, a new hearing aid that adapts to the needs and lifestyles of each individual using first-of-its-kind technology.
